Community Forum Moderator (Multiple Positions Available)

Role Overview:

Volunteer Position – Part of the Cultivator Club Contribution Exchange program.

We’re seeking compassionate moderators to lead forums focused on specific chronic illnesses—such as autoimmune disorders, chronic pain, mental health, and more. Your personal experience or familiarity with these conditions will help create empathetic, safe, and connected spaces for members.

Time Commitment, Term & Training

  • Estimated Monthly Time: Around 3–5 hours, covering forum monitoring, engagement, and team collaboration.
  • Term Length: Minimum of 3 months; a 12-month term is preferred for community continuity.
  • Training Included: You’ll receive an onboarding packet with best practices, community guidelines, and moderation strategies. Training supports both foundational and elective skills tailored to moderation.
  • Moderator Buddy System: You’ll be paired with an experienced moderator “buddy” you can reach out to anytime for advice, questions, or peer support.
  • Ongoing Support: We’ll host monthly virtual meetups where moderators can share experiences, ask questions, and gain peer-to-peer support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome & Engage New Members
Extend a warm greeting and foster inclusive, condition-specific discussions.
  • Monitor & Maintain Community Health
Ensure posts comply with guidelines and gently de-escalate when needed.
  • Provide Accurate, Condition-Specific Support
Share empathetic guidance and reliable resources appropriate to your forum’s focus.
  • Collaborate with the Team
Communicate concerns, share feedback, and coordinate responses with fellow moderators.
  • Practice Self-Care
Moderation can be emotionally intense—lean on your buddy, use training resources, and pause when needed to preserve your own well-being.

Ideal Moderator Profile

  • Has lived experience with, or depth of understanding in, the specific chronic condition of the forum they’ll support.
  • Possesses empathetic and thoughtful communication skills, cultivating safe and respectful dialogue.
  • Can commit consistent time month-to-month and contribute to forum continuity.
  • Is proactive in building welcoming, inclusive environments rooted in shared experience and understanding.

Why Your Role Matters

  • You help create a “home” where people feel understood, heard, and seen.
  • Your lived knowledge and empathy add depth and authenticity to condition-specific conversations.
  • You help cultivate trust, connection, and shared growth—essential to The Cultivator Club’s mission.
