A First Look at Grappa’s House in Park City

Where history, architecture, and the promise of a memorable meal come together.

One of the greatest joys of Artful Living is discovering places that stop you in your tracks—not just because they’re beautiful, but because they tell a story. That was my experience with Grappa, the warmly lit restaurant perched like a jewel at the top of Main Street in Park City, Utah.

I haven’t eaten there—yet. But it now sits firmly at the top of my must-visit list. And here’s why:

It was a moment worth cultivating.

A photograph I captured on a summer evening. The warm stone, overflowing flower boxes, and soft glow of string lights made the whole scene feel like something out of a European daydream.

That’s what Cultivating Moments is all about—pausing long enough to let beauty and meaning catch up to us. Whether it’s a photo, a fleeting feeling, or a quiet corner of the world, these are the moments that nourish the soul.

A Place With a Past

Built in the late 1800s, this historic building originally served as a boarding house during Park City’s bustling silver mining days. Miners, immigrants, and travelers once climbed the same hill in search of rest and a warm meal. In the 1990s, restaurateur Bill White lovingly restored the property and transformed it into Grappa—named after the rustic Italian spirit made from grape skins.

That restoration was more than just cosmetic. It was a way to cultivate a connection between Park City’s rugged past and a more refined present. The cobbled steps, wrought-iron balconies, and flower-draped terraces feel both timeless and intentional—an invitation to slow down, to look closer, to appreciate the small details.

Artistry on the Outside, Promise on the Inside

What made me stop and photograph this building—and what has me dreaming of a future visit—is the way every exterior detail feels lovingly considered. The golden window trim, the overflowing flower boxes, the scalloped awnings—it’s all artfully curated. It speaks to a kind of care and attentiveness that I deeply admire.

I’ve always believed that when a place shows this much intention on the outside, there’s a good chance that same spirit carries through to the food, the service, and the atmosphere. Grappa seems to be the kind of place that doesn’t rush anything—where flavor is layered, hospitality is warm, and every element is designed to cultivate an exceptional life and an experience worth remembering.

A Future Visit, Already Savored

I imagine a cozy table on the terrace. A plate of handmade pasta, followed by the rich and savory Lobster Fregola Sarda—Maine lobster tail, wild shrimp, black mussels, calamari, and chorizo simmered in a spicy seafood broth and served with grilled baguette. Or perhaps the decadent Duck Risotto, with crispy duck leg, creamy saffron risotto, grilled scallions, trumpet mushrooms, and cherry agrodolce. The soft hum of conversation drifts through the mountain air. And to finish? That stunning Grapefruit, Blackberry Pavlova—a dessert as light and artful as the setting itself.

Even before that day comes, this moment—standing beneath the balcony, camera in hand, heart full of curiosity—was its own kind of feast.

Grappa reminds me that Travel + Taste isn’t just about the meals we enjoy, but the places that stir something inside us. The ones that help us cultivate a slower pace, a deeper appreciation, and a more artful way of experiencing the world.

And I will.

Wish List: Grappa, Park City

When I finally make my way inside Grappa, here’s what I hope to savor:

  • A quiet table on the upper terrace, ideally just before sunset
  • Lobster Fregola Sarda—a rich and flavorful dish featuring Maine lobster tail, wild shrimp, black mussels, calamari, and chorizo, all simmered in a spicy seafood broth and served with grilled baguette.
  • Or perhaps, the Duck Risotto—a decadent dish with crispy duck leg, creamy saffron risotto, grilled scallion, trumpet mushrooms, and cherry agrodolce.
  • That stunning Grapefruit, Blackberry Pavlova for dessert
  • A lingering moment in the mountain air, and the glow of string lights
