Few states carry as much of America’s story as Virginia. Eight U.S. presidents were born here — more than any other state — including four of the first five. More Civil War battles were fought on Virginia soil than anywhere else in the country. And yet, somehow, the Commonwealth is far more than a history lesson — it’s wild ponies on barrier islands, waterfalls hidden in ancient forests, Appalachian music floating out of a storefront on a Friday night, and a three-Michelin-star meal in a town so small you could miss it at 40 miles an hour. This is my ever-growing list of everything I want to see, eat, and experience here. It will take multiple trips. I’m fine with that.
